Research by the Which in 2018 had shown that the average British home has shrunk by 20% in size over the last 100 years. That is why at Bailey Joinery we specialise in making the most of the space you have.
If you have ever had any work done on your property, you will know that rooms are rarely square with perfect heights. This is where fitted wardrobes really come into their own. I’ve measured bedrooms with Victorian sloping ceilings, houses with awkward alcoves and chimney breasts and even had to consider customers’ pets! Standard wardrobes are made to ‘fit’ in your room. They won’t take into consideration your chimney breast or sloping ceiling and will most likely leave you with a gap at the top. Not only this but if your room is awkward shaped your standard wardrobe will stick out like a sore thumb.
I’ve designed wardrobes in Knaresborough that have been broken up by incredibly sloping ceilings which rendered about half the height of the room useless when it came to fitting a standard wardrobe. Using a bespoke fitted wardrobe that matched the slope of the roof, we were able to utilise this ‘dead space’ and provide the customer with 60% more hanging space than any other free-standing wardrobe could.

At Bailey Joinery we pride ourselves on using the best materials we can for all our projects. After over 25 years of fitting furniture, I have learnt that if you try and cut corners with your furniture it will show. Whether it’s in a few years or ten years your drawers will start to stick, doors will fall off the track and you’ll be looking to replace your furniture long before it should be needed.
Fitted bedroom furniture from Bailey Joinery is made using MFC solid board cabinets. This is what gives the furniture its strength and sturdiness and, when looked after, will last you decades. The furniture centres you find in supermarkets use thin sheets of particle board which can fall apart in years, not decades. We always use soft-close hinges as nobody likes slamming doors. Not only do they look better but they are better for your furniture and cupboard doors won’t slam shut if you’ve got kids or partners that like to rush around in the mornings!
The drawer runners that we use are heavy duty and can withstand a lot of weight. They are commercial grade so you can open and close them thousands of times without any problems. The furniture industry tests how long doors and drawers will last. On average budget furniture doors will be tested to 5,000 cycles and budget drawers to 2,500 cycles. The hinges and drawer runners that we use are all tested to last between 10-15,000 cycles. That’s five times longer than your average budget furniture!
Our bedroom furniture isn’t just strong on the inside, it's beautiful on the outside too. The lacquer or paint we use is applied by machine multiple times in a dust-free environment. This gives you a smooth and durable finish that is chip and scratch resistant.
